Rendering in Loughton and Epping
House fronts and porches, extensions, garden and side walls, and render that has cracked or come away. Loughton and Epping are a short drive up from our base in Woodford Green, and we come and look at every wall before we price it.
Close by, and already working here
Loughton is a short drive from Woodford Green and Epping a little further on, so coming out to look at a wall is easy to fit in, usually within a day or two. We have been plastering inside homes in both towns for years, with twelve reviewed jobs in Loughton and IG10 going back to 2019 and more across Epping and CM16. Render is the same trade done outside, with the weather to plan around.
An Epping conservatory, finished in sand and cement
In March 2025 we finished a conservatory in Epping. Its bare brick walls were beaded at the corners and round the doors, then rendered smooth in sand and cement. The before and after are in the photographs below, taken from the same corner. Render is not only for the front of a house: a conservatory, a porch, a garden wall or the side of a passage is done the same way.
Repair a section, or re-render the wall?
Most calls start with one problem: a crack that has opened up, a patch that sounds hollow when you tap it, or render that has come away round a window or along the bottom of a wall. If the rest of the wall is sound, the bad part is cut out and patched in. If the hollow areas keep going once we start tapping, or a wall has been patched so often it no longer looks like one wall, it is better hacked off and done again in one go. We tap the whole elevation on the visit, not only the part you have spotted, and tell you which it is before we price it.
How a re-render goes on
On our own re-render jobs the order is the same. Failed render is hacked off, a bonding primer or grit coat goes on where the background needs it, and beads are fixed to the corners and window reveals so the edges finish straight. A scratch coat goes on first and the finish coat follows. Where old render or pebble dash is tired but still firmly stuck, it does not have to come off: it can be primed, meshed and rendered over.
One council for every job on this page
Loughton, Debden, Epping, Theydon Bois and Buckhurst Hill are all in Epping Forest District, so the same planning rules apply across this page. Repairing render, or re-rendering a wall that is already rendered, is not usually something you need permission for. Rendering brick for the first time changes how a house looks, so it can be, and in a conservation area or on a listed building you should ask Epping Forest District Council before anyone starts. If you do not know whether your road is in one, the council's planning team can tell you.

Questions about rendering in Loughton and Epping
Do you do rendering in Loughton and Debden?
Yes. Loughton is one of the towns we work in most, a short drive from Woodford Green, and Debden and High Beach are covered the same way. Ring, or send the form with your postcode, and we will arrange a time to come and look at the wall in person.
Do you cover Theydon Bois, Coopersale and North Weald for rendering?
Yes. They are on the Epping side of the area we cover, and we have been working inside homes across CM16 for years, so outside work there is no further to come.
Can you render a conservatory or a porch?
Yes. In Epping in March 2025 we rendered a conservatory's brick walls smooth in sand and cement, and porches and extensions are common jobs. A small piece of render is still worth a call: the visit is free either way.
My render sounds hollow when I tap it. Does it all need to come off?
Not always. Hollow render has lost its grip on the wall, and how much of it has gone decides the job. A few patches can be cut out and repaired. If most of the wall sounds the same, hacking it off and re-rendering costs less in the end than patching it again and again.
When can new render be painted?
Once it has cured, which takes weeks rather than days, and longer through a cold or wet spell. Silicone and monocouche renders are coloured all the way through and are not usually painted at all. We tell you which applies to your wall when the work is done.
How much does rendering cost in Loughton or Epping?
It depends on the size of the wall, whether old render has to come off first, and how easy the wall is to reach, which is why we price it after seeing it. The visit is free and the price we give you is fixed.
