Rendering in Woodford Green, Loughton and Epping
External rendering on houses, extensions and porches, and repairs to render that has cracked or come away. The same trade as the plastering, just outside, with the weather to work around.
Every type of render
We do all the common types of render: traditional sand and cement, modern silicone and monocouche renders, and pebbledash. Which one suits your house depends on the wall underneath, what is on the neighbouring houses, and the finish you want, and we talk it through with you on the free visit.
Smooth or textured, new or repaired
Render can go on smooth or with a texture, across a whole elevation or on a single wall. Often the job is a repair rather than a full re-render: a section that has cracked, come away from the wall or let water in, cut out and patched into what is there. We will tell you honestly whether a patch will match or whether the wall is better done in one go.
Working with the weather
Render is less forgiving than plaster inside. It should not go on in frost or heavy rain, and it needs time to cure before it is painted. Outside work gets planned around the forecast for that reason, and if a day is not right for it, we would rather say so than push on.
Rendering in Loughton, Epping and across the patch
We render across Woodford Green, Loughton, Epping, Chingford and the rest of east London and west Essex. Rendering has been part of the business from the start: some of our earliest reviews, from 2019, are for plastering and rendering on the same job, including a utility room plastered and an outside wall of about 3m by 4m rendered.
Planning permission and conservation areas
Repairing render, or re-rendering a wall that is already rendered, does not usually need planning permission. Rendering a brick house for the first time can, because it changes how the house looks, and in a conservation area rendering the outside of a house is not covered by permitted development at all. Flats and listed buildings have their own rules. If you are unsure, check with your council before booking anyone: for most of our area that is Waltham Forest, Redbridge or Epping Forest.

Common questions about rendering
What types of render do you use?
All the common ones: sand and cement, silicone, monocouche and pebbledash. We will recommend one on the free visit, based on the wall, the houses around it and the finish you are after.
Do I need planning permission to render my house?
Usually not for repairs or for re-rendering a wall that is already rendered. Rendering a brick house for the first time can need permission because it changes the look of the house, and in a conservation area rendering the outside of a house is not permitted development. Check with your council if you are not sure.
Can you repair a section of render rather than redo the whole wall?
Often, yes. Cracked or blown render can be cut out and patched. The honest caveat is that a patch can show against old render that has weathered, especially once it is painted, so we tell you on the visit whether a repair will blend in or the wall is better done in one go.
How long before new render can be painted?
New render needs to cure before it is painted, which is a matter of weeks rather than days, and longer in cold or damp weather. We will tell you when yours is ready, based on the wall and the conditions it went on in.
Can rendering be done in winter?
On the right days. Render should not be applied when frost is forecast or in heavy rain, so winter work needs a dry, mild spell. Plastering inside carries on all year.
How much does rendering cost?
It depends on the size of the wall, how much preparation it needs, how easy it is to get to, and whether it is a repair or a full elevation. We come and look for free and give you a fixed price.
